Soul Black & Uno Sushi at 153 Campbell St in Bowen Hills blends the casual café atmosphere with a straightforward take on Japanese-inspired lunch options, making it a practical stop for those looking for a quick coffee fix alongside a bite of authentic, homestyle flavors.

Primarily a café, Soul Black places a clear focus on their coffee offerings — particularly their black coffee made with the house’s own Fonzie Abbott blend, plus rotating single origins from local roasters. The espresso here draws in locals who appreciate well-crafted brews without fuss. Mornings or early afternoons are when the spot feels most natural, with a steady flow of solo workers, coffee devotees, and neighborhood regulars grabbing caffeine to fuel their day.

Despite the café label, Uno Sushi adds a distinct flavor profile with affordable Japanese dishes like Teriyaki Chicken Bento, Yaki Udon, and pan-fried gyoza dumplings. There’s also a comforting range of curries — from Vegetable Curry to Chicken Katsu Curry — adding variety beyond typical café fare. The food feels simple but thoughtfully prepared, catering well to those who want something more substantial with their coffee, whether dining in or grabbing takeaway.

The space is more functional than social, with a vibe leaning towards quick stops rather than lingering afternoons. Staff interactions tend to be brisk but polite, fitting the café’s busy takeout rhythm, especially around lunch hour when the place fills quickly. It’s a spot that suits people aiming for efficiency without sacrificing decent quality in both coffee and food.

Visitors should expect a no-frills environment where utility meets good enough flavors, perfect for a weekday caffeine run or a quick midday meal. Those with a preference for Japanese-style comfort food alongside solid coffee are likely to find their needs met here, while anyone looking for a relaxed café hangout with extended seating might want to look elsewhere.

완벽한 커피를 마시러 올게요 I can't rave enough about this hidden gem in Brisbane! As a coffee lover, I drive far and wide just to indulge in their exceptional coffee, which is consistently top-notch. Their fresh pastries are simply divine, always baked to perfection, and pair wonderfully with their drinks. The Korean food here is authentic and bursting with flavors that transport me straight back to my home in Seoul. What truly sets this place apart is the amazing staff – they're incredibly friendly and make practicing my Korean language so much fun. They always welcome me with a smile and a warm conversation. If you're looking for a unique and delightful coffee experience, I highly recommend visiting this Korean coffee store. It's worth every mile! ***ill see you again guys!!! Ally x

Went on a quiet Saturday lunch session. The taste of the food was acceptable. Portion sizes and prices are typical of sushi spots. Food was brought over in a reasonable time for dining in.

Had a few different dishes. Quick and easy Meal. But get in earlier as they get busy. Not really doing friendly service but it is take away shop so understandable.

Nice little coffee hole providing refuge from RBWH. The coffee is lovely, the cabinet selection changes and seems quite popular. The sushi side is also very easily accessed and covers all bases.

Stopped for a quick 7am coffee refuel and was tempted by savory scroll … unsure what this was exactly so asked and was offered a taste … based on the chef’s description decided to grab without tasting AND so glad I did. Ham, cheese and tomatoes are just the start of the explosion of flavours in this compact package. As a bonus was given a warm (just out of oven) blueberry muffin. Normally I’m not a sweet muffin person but oh my - they have got this recipe soooo right and chock full of juicy sweet blueberries. Delicious. Highly recommend. Super lovely & helpful staff.
